MARPA improvesthestandardof collisionavoidancebyobtainingdetailed
informationfor severalautomaticallytrackedtargets.MARPAprovides
continuous, accurateandrapidsituationevaluation.
Youcanacquireup to tentargets,whicharethenautomaticallytrackedbythe
MARPAsystem.MARPA calculatestargetbearing andrange,truespeed and
course,CPA(ClosestPointofApproach),andTCPA(TimetoClosestPointof
Approach).
Eachtrackedtarget canbe displayedwithavectordepictingapproximate
target speed(vectorlength)and course(vectordirection). The calculated

andyou are warned ifone becomes dangerousor is lost.
Effective MARPA operationisdependenton accurateownship’sheading,
plusSOG andCOG. The better thequalityof the headingdata, the better
MARPA willperform. (MARPA functionswithout SOG and COG data but
onlyrelativevector, CPA and TCPA areshown; targetcourseandspeed
cannotbe calculated). For moreinformation onheading sensors, and how to
connectthemtoyourdisplay,refertoHeadingandPositionDataon page 1-9
andAppendix E.
SAFETY NOTICES
MARPA canimprove collisionavoidancewhenused wisely. It is the
users responsibilitytoexercisecommon prudenceand navigational
judgements.
