Planning the
Installation
Note:If you wishtopracticeusingthedisplaybeforeinstallation, connecta
12Vor 24V DC powersupply(connectingthered wire via a 6.3A quickblow
fuseto positiveand the blackwireto negative)and usingthe simulatormode,
asdescribedinChapter 2.
Forfullfunctionalityoftheradarandchartplotteryouneedtoprovideposition
andheading data.
• Orientation - headingdata is requiredfor the radarto operatein NorthUp
andHead Up mode and the charttooperateinCourseUpandHeadUp.
• MOBrequiresheadingand speeddata.Alternatively,SOGand COG
(derivedfromthesamesourceaspositiondata) enablethe MOB function.
• MARPA and radar/chartoverlayrequireaccurateheadingdata;full
MARPA functionality is provided if SOG and COG are also available.
• Position data is requiredfor fullfunctionality of the chartdisplay.

Planning the Installation
Beforeyou installyour system, planthe installation,considering:
• Locationofthedisplayunit,asdescribedinSection 8.3.
• CableRuns,includingcablesforanintegratedsystem(toprovideheading
andpositiondata etc.),as describedin Section 8.4.
EMC Installation Guidelines
AllRaymarine equipment and accessoriesare designedtothe bestindustry
standardsforuse in the recreationalmarineenvironment.
Theirdesignandmanufactureconformsto the appropriateElectromagnetic
Compatibility (EMC)standards,but correct installationis requiredto ensure
thatperformanceisnotcompromised.Althougheveryefforthasbeentakento
ensurethattheywillperformunderallconditions,itisimportanttounderstand
whatfactorscouldaffecttheoperationoftheproduct.
Theguidelines givenhere describethe conditions for optimum EMC
performance,butitisrecognizedthatitmaynotbepossibletomeetallofthese
conditions inall situations.To ensurethebestpossibleconditionsfor EMC
performancewithinthe constraintsimposed byanylocation,alwaysensure
themaximum separationpossiblebetweendifferent itemsofelectrical
equipment.
