8.6 System Connections
Grounding the System
Itis importantthat an effectiveRF groundis connectedtothe system.You
mustgroundthe displayby connectingthe drain wire (shield)of the Power/
NMEA Inputcable to the ship’s RFground; a singlegroundpoint shouldbe
usedfor all equipment.
Ifyou need to extendthewire,the extensionwire should be an 8 mm braidor
AWG 10 (6.0 mm
2
)multi-strandedcable.
Ifyour vessel doesnot have anRF system,connectthedrainwiretothe
negativebatteryterminal.
DC Power Connection
Thedisplayisintendedforuseonships’DCpowersystemsratedat12V,24V
or32V.However, theoperatingvoltageof the radarandradar/chartplotter
displaysislimitedby the scannertowhichit is connectedas follows:
12V and 24 V systems RadomeScannerSystem
12V, 24V or32V 4kW OpenArray ScannerSystem;
RC530/RC631
24V or 32 V 10kW Open Array ScannerSystem
Thepowerconnectionto thedisplayshouldbemadeateitherthe output
ofthebatteryisolatorswitch,orataDC power distributionpanel.
Raymarinerecommends thatpower is fed directlyto the display via its
owndedicatedcablesystemandMUSTbeprotectedbyathermalcircuit
breakerorfuse,installedclosetothepowerconnection.
TheDCsystemshouldbeeither:
• Negative grounded,withthenegativebatteryterminalconnectedto the
shipsground.
• Floating, with neitherbattery terminalconnectedto the shipsground.
CAUTION:
Thissystemisnotintendedforuse on “positive” ground vessels.
ThepowercableGround (earth)connectionsmust be connectedtothe
ship’sgroundasdescribedabove.
Power for External Equipment
Externalequipmentcannotbepoweredfromthe display’sSeaTalk
interface.
Itmustbe powered fromthe ship’ssupplyor via a SeaTalk bus.
